Oiling threads

Loading...

What type of oil do you use on tension rods and such? I know that petrolium jelly is a no-no, it breaks down and also attracts dirt. I use 3 in 1 or fishing reel oil (has a neat needle like dispenser).FYI Any other good ideas.

There has been some recent debate about whether to oil the threads at all. The argument is based upon the fact that lug screws which are lubricated will loosen when the drum is played.

I just clean mine with good old WD-40 and leave it at that. I think there is a very lightweight oil in WD-40, but it doesn't stay oily very long.

I've been oiling my threads for years and never had a problem with them loosening. That's a new one on me.

I think it has to do more with heavy hitters. I never really have had that problem, either...but it does make sense.
