Any date stamp on that Ludwig snare?

There is no date stamp on the painted white interior. You don’t need a date stamp in any event because the keystone badge has no serial number. The 1959 transition badge was followed in 1960 by a return to the traditional keystone badge with no serial number. They started producing keystone badges with serial numbers in 61’/62’. This one is a 1960 fer sure. I can also tell you with confidence that the 3-ply lay-up is maple/poplar/maple because it is lacquered on the outside and painted on the inside. Mahogany outer ply shells were wrapped because the open grain of the mahogany held the glue and wrap better than the tight grained maple. Maple was used for painted shells because they got to start with a smooth surface. Not a hard and fast rule but it is safe to assume that that is how they did it in most cases. This drum is 1960 manufacture and (likely) a 3-ply maple lay-up.
