Odd Zildjian Lettering??

Loading...

I recently bought this. I can't find any info on dating where the stamp has block lettering including the O in CO. All I have seen, on the internet, is the Co (underlined "o"). Anyone have any input on this? It is a 16 " cymbal and is quite heavy for a 16 crash.

Thanks in advance!

Looks to be a newer stamp, approx. late 80'S to mid 90's is my guess

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

I was thinking 60's or 70's. Can anyone else weigh in?

It's later like he said. The oldest it could be would be later 1970's.

Thanks, I am still a novice.

I was looking at forum member Soap's thread 50's Vintage Cymbals for Sale, and the 20 inch ride he sold has the same type letter size with the capital "O". Although someone commented his cymbals were 60's not 50's.

Anyone have more info about the capital "O" use? Was it made somewhere else than the normal plant, therefore a different stamp, but used throughout many years. Are there other characterizations of my stamp that identify it as 80's/90's?

I'm no expert on cymbals that late in vintage. Once you get past the early 70's my interest level drops quickly.

I have been scouring the internet trying to find out more information on this exact stamp. I have a 17" Medium Thin crash that I have been trying to get some info on as I picked it up secondhand. I agree that it is post-82, pre-94 (at least in the case of my cymbal) because in 82, Z started stamping the big Zildjian name on the cymbals in full (compared to the outlines of the 70s) and they also started adding the date/lot etching in 94.

Regarding the pic, my cymbal has that exact stamp. The differences he mentioned are present in mine as well and I can't find any pictures of them either. I also noticed the "AVEDIS" is in a much thinner font compared to stamps commonly seen from the 70s and prior.

Have you been able to find any more information on this?

That's too recent to be of any real interest to me personally. So only decided to do the timeline up until the late 1970's.
