I don't find it attractive either. It would be interesting to know who is behind the curtain making these decisions.

Tri-Onyx? Seriously?!! Who thought this was a good idea?!! I liked the idea of the Red/Sliver/Blue sparkle wrap, but using onyx has me scratching my head! Now, that being said, I'm sure there will be some drummer out there who will think this Tri-Onyx wrap is just the hottest thing since sliced bread and will pony up the $$$ to purchase it!

I don't find the tri-onyx to be very appealing. I also think that the prices of the new Rogers drums are out of line with what drummers would pay for them. As for tri-colored drums, I never liked Red/Silver/Blue bands of wrap. My lucky find of a late sixties Slingerland bop-sized set (12-14-20) was one of the best vintage drum purchases I ever made. The bands of Red Glass Glitter and Blue Glass Glitter were easily in 9 out of 10 condition under the grime that covered them. Each shell had two bands of wrap that were that horrible White Sparkle. The filthy damaged white bands had delaminated and were peeling off of the shells. That made it easy for me to strip those ugly damaged bands of white off of the shells. Precision sent me replacement bands of vintage White Marine Pearl that were cut to size. Somewhere along the way, I acquired enough White Sparkle wrap if I ever want to return the drums to original condition. But, I don't think that I will.

Great job. Not an easy one either. I did once try red and black sparkle as a combination and could not get the seams right. It was a single marching Dynasonic that had wrap that had split apart so it was an experiment. I removed it, cleaned the shell and sold it naked.

I've seen your kit before and always liked it! Yeah, that "Sparkling White Pearl" never appealed to me, either! Replacing it with the strips of WMP looks pretty cool!

Dan! I also think you're correct about the tri-band finishes being reserved for marching drums. Here's my early 70's 10x14 marching snare in a dual-band wrap. It has the typical shrinking of the wrap, where you can see the shell in-between.

Yep...That type of shrinkage is the rule rather than the exception. I learned that from George Costanza.

My tri-color Slingy set has band shrinkage. I measured the ugly White Sparkle bands carefully so that they could be replaced by the WMP. The shrinkage was there before I replaced the old wrap.

that is the first new Rogers set I've seen with two floor toms.

Those two colors look really nice together. I hadn't thought about factory jobs having a shrinkage problem, but it takes a skilled hand to seam it from day one.
