the batter head looks to be skin (really thick) same with the bottom head, the bottom head is tacked on and looks like it was manufactured that way. is this drum rare? why was it made that way? how old is it?
thanks kyle

Just and old-skool rack tom...go look at pics of very old drumsets, 1940's and earlier...the res head was always tacked on. The batter head was hooped. It's a calfskin batter head. Plastic/synthetic heads didn't come into being until Remo invented 'em in, what ? Very late 40's, I think.....
What size tom is it ? 12" ???
Just pop the top head off, should be a date stamp inside something like 4003 first 2 are year, second 2 are the month, usually toms are 11", 13",16"some 12" and 14".
Great drums,My main gigging set is a 1940 wmp Leedy 28",11".13".16"all toms with tacked bottoms.Cool Dude
