it seems to me that a lot of sellers are not aware of the difference between the two, does any one here have issues with it? ...i see some fading on obp that's gives a blue hue (barely) and therefore some may see as bop but there is a definitive difference to me even faded or yellowed so as in some single drums the deals await those with the sharp eye....lol!

62 cat. shows oyster black pearl therefore obp and also oyster blue pearl but i switch bop for blue sorry for not clarifying by 1980 cat. no more oyster black pear only blue still called oyster blue pearl in 19 80 cat.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I was thinking to those new to vintage drums, is there an index anywhere or a cheat sheet of abbreviations?

bop

obp

wmp

sbp

It can all get a bit tedious. I also see mop as in "mother of pearl", which makes me laugh because my grandmother would say that when she was upset. I still don't know the origin of that saying... :)

But black oyster, at least to me, looks not much blue oyster. Plus it commands probably triple the value of any other pearls.

If I'm not mistaken, Ludwig originally called their 2 finishes "Oyster Black Pearl" & " Oyster Blue Pearl"; but people often called the "Black Oyster Pearl" & "Blue Oyster Pearl" so Ludwig switched..........marko
