From Purdie Shuffle

Sling - DW has never gotten the bearing edges right. What made Geo. Way drums and later 60's Camco drums sound so good was 3 and 4 ply Jasper maple shells combined with the most unique bearing edge profile I have ever seen on any other drums. Geo. Way used to customize the profile for each drum in order to maximize head/shell contact and produce that wonderful warm and deeply resonant tone they are known for.Keller shells and DW edges just ain't ever going to quite get it. The only similarity between vintage Camco's and DW is the turret lugs. The similarity ends there.Satchmo (Pops) used to say; "Why eat hamburger when you can have steak!" Why buy DW when there are Camco's (the -real- whammy-jammy) to be had!John

Right On!, Amen!
