Tophat & Cane bassdrum listed here......$2700 the guy wants for just the bass drum and the wrap is MAJORLY DAMAGED! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE????? I mean, the wrap is what makes the drum valuable, otherwise its just a regular 1941 Ludwig bass drum!??!!! Good luck to him!
Now I know this guy is nutz! Last viewed: 6 seconds ago
Been looking at this one over the last few weeks, I would just keep it if I couldn't get maybe 5k for it but 27k !?!? WOW!! :lol
Probably could just get some non vintage top hat and cane wrap and call it a day...
Oh - nm, there is another top hat cane entire kit for something over 20k and thought this was it, but still 2700 for majorly damaged wrap is pretty funny... :D
When it comes t these super-rare-finish drums, the reason why they command higher dollars is because they are sold as art rather than as musical instruments.
And one theory states that: There is so much junk being made, today, that people get nostalgic and wistful over something that represents that bygone day when there was very little junk. Even the junk was better back then! :)
The Top Hat and Cane finish is a weird kind of time capsule look back at what used to be seen as "Puttin on the Ritz". People got dressed up in tuxedos and formal gowns just to hang out and have some cocktails. A top hat and cane was reeeeeeaaaaally fancy. And so, now, we see these old (and sometimes damaged) icons of this history and the values of such items become more ambiguous. Value depends upon those people who are able to magnify that nostalgic and wistfulness by possessing such objects.
Rich people can buy things like this just to decorate their "Roaring 20's" rumpus rooms! They don't have to play at all. They just hang it up in a corner and when people come by for wine and cheese, they say, "By Jove! That's a ripping bass drum you've got, old boy! Another martini?"Chewie::Santa:DOH
I'm not defending the price. I'm just saying that there are other criteria for why certain objects can achieve unusual values on the market.
I don't think the seller will get that price, either, btw.

This one comes with the drum key!!! Dude! I'm not kidding! I'm am so all over this one. I couldn't believe it, but it's true. The guy finally fessed up and unfurled the hanky. There inside...was...the key! I was speechless. I have since liquidated my Polly Pocket stocks and am ready to sink it all into this one. Oh man...you guys were so right. Collecting is the BOMB!!! :D
Well shoot, if it comes with a key, it's a whole new kettle of suckers, oops... fish.
"By Jove! That's a ripping bass drum you've got, old boy! Another martini?"
. . . . I asked as I took off my monacle and cape!
Hilarious! That really made me laugh out loud.
You're totally right though. I can imagine someone saying, "Much better than the JUNK they make these days".
He is ripping outta his mind....
Look at the other high end goodie we have, for a lot more than I think it's worth. Now, if you need one to complete your set, this may be the only one out there, but damn, it's FILTHY!!! Clean it up dude!
