The Stagg cymbals I have come across are no better than the toy ones they sell with kid's sets- they were all dented from multiple hits and seemed 'soft'... very very cheap- (maybe they're better now as this was years ago....)

They may not be your cup of tea, but they are definitely not toys. Of course, its unclear exactly what MIKEY777 is being offered. $10 per cymbal seems suspiciously cheap.

Stagg DH are the equivalent of Zildjian K's or Sabian HH.

Stagg hired the cymbal smith from Sabian a few years ago and he did a real nice job on the DH line.

They are absolutely not toys. I got a great deal on some Stagg cymbals years ago at Alto Music in Middletown, NY. They were salesmen's samples. I got a ride, two crashes and a splash for $250 total. I couldn't find hats I liked, unfortunately. Then, I bought another set of crashes and a light ride later for a good price. I sold the original set of crashes recently, but still have the rides, crashes and splash. They are all quality cymbals that are dark and dirty sounding.

I was friendly with the well known American cymbalsmith, the late Mike Skiba. I visited with him a couple of times at his home in Brick Twp, NJ. Mike bought cymbal blanks from Turkey, then hammered and lathed them in his shop. They were great sounding cymbals. Mike always said that the Chinese had the resources and know-how to make world class cymbals, but they chose to occupy the lower price point in the market. He felt they could easily give Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, etc, a solid run for their money, at a lower cost.

Chinese Stagg cymbals are getting better all the time. You should try some of the newer models.

Thanks for that insight DrumBob- evidently I saw some lower line/ earlier Stagg- or else I saw a stack with a Stagg and 'assumed' all were the same...if I remember they were in a thrift shop in another state long long ago..... I will look closer if I come across any in the future. (always something to learn here!)

You're welcome. I hope I didn't sound harsh. You must have seen some real cheap crap. I have never seen Stagg cymbals like that, just the better ones. And the ones I've tried lately are very nice. The Chinese are very clever people, except when they rip off American companies' intellectual property. Anyone for a Chibson guitar? Those fake Gibsons are all over Ebay now. A shame. Sure, you can buy a "Les Paul" for $289.

I once found a fake Gretsch guitar on Ebay and the seller was trying palm it off as genuine. I called Ebay CS and told them the guitar was a fake and had proof to back it up and reminded the guy that Ebay could be held responsible and complicit for selling counterfeit merchandise if they didn't take the auction down. Fifteen minutes later, it was gone.

Not harsh at all- when you know something and share it I consider that education! I looked at the Stagg website and either I saw some old student/beginner models or the 'beat up' ones possibly weren't even Stagg- (after all- I'm an old 'squat'!) Again thanks for sharing your experience-

I was heavily into cymbals about 10-15 years ago. I was a member of cymbalholic and had a friend who was a total cymbal maven. I bumped into him in a music store a few weeks ago. At that time, he had something like 64 ride cymbals in his collection, plus crashes, splashes and Chinas, all of which were in a locked closet in his house. I have continued to buy cymbals if I can get a deal, but currently have about a dozen for sale, as I have an endorsement deal with Impression cymbals of Turkey.
