Not 1 but 2 drummers

Since he was old enough to pee in my eye when I changed him, I have called my son, James, 'Jaimo.' He has always been aware that he was nick-named after a great drummer. I have been a Bros. fan all my adult life. I have never played in a two-drummer band, but I wouldn't mind trying it. If you get two guys on the same wavelength, it could sound truly awesome. Thunder and Glory!

Couldn't agree with you more John. It never gets old. I could listen to Allman Brothers all night long!

From tubwompus

There were a couple of Joe Walsh tours where he had Andy Newmark and another I can't remember and another tour where he had both Joe Vitale (big surprise) along with Russ Kunkel.

Newmark was with Vitale, documented on "You Can't Argue With a Sick Mind."

Kunkel and Vitale were on the 1981 "There Goes the Neighborhood" Tour. They were throwing sticks at each other and catching them during the breakdown of "Funk #49."

In another post, I described a November 2011 jam session in which I set up two kits. With the right person, it can be very powerful and a lot of fun. We were able to lock in for some unison parts that drove the crowd nuts, and at other times split up parts that would have been difficult for most to play alone but were simple when shared. It was amazing what we could accomplish just jamming, a little rehearsal would have been most impressive.

There is something alluring about it, even if it's not always appropriate. There were a few times where I wanted to step down to let one drummer play alone, but the guitarist who was the guest of honor wouldn't allow it.

It does require two sympathetic players with big ears to pull off.

Joe Cocker and the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour had:

Jim Gordon and Jim Keltner and Chuck Blackwell on drums (CB also on perc). Great show, not a lot of long shots of the drummers:

Porcaro and Gordon duetted the drum part on Parker's Band.

Of the two, I think the Mad Dogs nailed it. The promise of Porcaro and Gordon on the same track never really panned out to my tastes--both thrill me more on their own.

Anyone remember Clear Light? Dallas Taylor and Michael Ney on drums.

BTW James Brown was known to have up to four drummers on stage during Melvin Franklin's tenure. Some of them were hired for little more than a desired groove.
