FYI - I borrowed a scale similar to yours to try to weigh cymbals but couldn't see the display w the cymbal on it. My wife's luggage scale (the type that you hang the bag from scale hook) worked perfectly!
I don't own a scale but I would build something that would support a cymbal standing on it's edge. I would weigh this separately, and just tape something to it to get it to an easy number ( i.e. 1100 grams, 1700 grams, etc.) so that when I weighed the cymbal standing in this thing, I could very easily subtract the known weight of this apparatus. Fine tune this add-on weight with simple pieces of tape, or something heavier taped to it if needed, until you get it to an easy number to subtract.
I would probably (I have a bunch of old pvc pipe and fittings, so there would be no added expense here) make an H and use tees to make uprights that would hold the cymbal diagonally across the H, if the H was in it's normal position.
I may mess around with this when I get home and pass along the final results, once I work the bugs out. Things like these are typically easiest to figure out when actually building these home-made fixes....LOL
