North East Legion Slingerland Snare

Loading...

Hi all,

I have a 15" Slingerland Marching Snare, 1958. Inside written in pencil is "North East Legion Fireman Band"

I'm in the UK, so not that clued up. Anyone care to shed some light if possible.

Even without seeing any pictures of it, I don't think that there's any significance to this snare drum. It's most likely a generic Slingerland marching snare drum from that era. I played on many of them in school from 1952 through 1961. I also played on one in the U.S. Army in 1967.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Hi allandwf!

First, probably a typo and should have read "North East....". I have a feeling that this was simply the organization the drum belonged to. I did a Google search and nothing comes up for them. Most likely from a long time ago and that specific organization no longer exists or had a name change.

Sorry my mistake, it does indeed say North East. I was just curious as to what and where it was. No real significance in the pencil writing, but...... the drum is in Capri Pearl :)

Now, THAT--Capri Pearl--makes the drum very interesting. Please post any oictures you can of this drum.

The drum is in good shape, stick savers top and bottom, not splits, but is needing a good clean, bottom head is seized in the hoop! Pics from starting the clean up. Odd that it has two date stamps, the two holes are from the leg brace that I have removed to clean.

Some of the interior. Been damp at some point in its life I think. It should still clean up nicely.

Are you planning to keep it or sell it?

It's a keeper. I have most of the usual snares in Capri, it will join them.
