normal tom to concert tom conversion Last viewed: 34 minutes ago

Hey everyone,

I recently bought 6",8",12" and 15" toms.

(3-ply with a black wrap and granit paint interriors)

I think they are from 1975?

I'm going to rewrap them in "silver sparkle" and only drill holes in the wrap (for the the lugs) on the batter side. The holes of the reso side wil be covert with wrap, because I don't like the look of lugs with no hoop and head on.

Would it be a problem to cover the reso side lug holes with wrap?

Do the lug holes influence the sound of the toms much so that you

(or a microphone) can hear it?

Jeebee,

The reso-side lug holes will have absolutely no influence on the sound of the tom compared to the big hole you're creating by eliminating the reso head. I applaud you for resurrecting the concert tom sound we all loved in the '70s but which fell out of favor after disco died. By rewrapping over the lug holes and not plugging them, you're leaving yourself (or some later owner) the opportunity to easily convert these toms back to double-headed. Post some pictures of their new Silver Sparkle make-over.
