I forgot to mention my older brother bought me a four piece orange sparkle "Norma" brand drum kit to keep me off his sky blue pearl Ludwigs back when I was about fourteen years old

so I have that connection with them as well

they look cool. So judging by the BD hoop inlays they were maybe once blue but the color faded showing the wood underneath?

Yes I think this wrap has a tendancy toward a more rapid fading than most

I few years back I bought two totally roached out mij bass drums

and a couple painted over toms ,I think i gave a twenty dollar bill for them

(one tom was a Slingerland with six decent lugs and one decent 13"stick saver)

Anyway the drums were trashed but one of the bass drums was identical

to the one with this kit

I salvaged the wrap because I thought it was cool

and as I was taking off the lugs (also identical to these)

I realized only then how badly faded the wrap really was

as the areas under the hardware were a really beautiful light blue

as opposed to this dull but still cool sort of greyish green

I agree that the wood is showing through the wrap. You can see the grain- So what would happen if you removed the wrap,painted the wood silver-blue and re-applied the wrap?

You have interest in them...$150 is not a bad price...I`d see if he would take $125 for them...

i like that idea I was thinking of at least partially removing the bass drum wrap to address what seems to be some mildew between the wrap and the outer ply (see pic)

so taking it a step further with some well selected paint sounds very interesting

heres the problem with trying the 125.00 offer

He had them on the bay with the slingerland hardware and cymbals for four hundred

A. I saw he was local to me and B. he had them listed as local pickup only

I had to sort of talk him into splitting up the drums from the cymbals and hardware

then he wanted two hundred for the drums from there

i offered the 150.00 and he had to think about it for most of the day before accepting

I have missed out on two other pretty cool kits for various reasons recently

I did not want to risk having this fellow walk me for a lousy quarter

I have a real passion for collecting these old stencil drums and sometimes pay a little more than i would offer for better quality more contemporary drum gear which I also buy pretty regularly

I think you have your answer...Please post more pics when you restore them...

as i remember, from stripping that old roached out twin of this bass drum

once the hardware was removed the wrap pretty much fell right off
