No resonant side bearing edges

Loading...

Hello everyone. This is a question for some Sonor people out there. Oddball, hopefully you know what im talking about....

I took my Phonic kit into my local music shop over the past weekend to trade toward a new(er) kit. I know, I know, im facing the guillotine by admitting that, but I gotta do what I gotta do. Anyways, the one drum salesman/ technician there looked it over, as he used to work for Sonor, or somehow was linked with Sonor, but anyways, he was looking over my kit to give me a rough trade in value, and I pointed out that my toms have no bearing edges cut on the resonant side, but yet still have factory installed lugs and tone controls. He was baffled, as was I. Anyone out there familiar with why the edges werent cut? Maybe a custom request? I wish I could post pics, but I dont have access to a camera. Anyone whith knowledge as to why there wouldnt be edges cut Id love to hear from you. Thanks in advance everyone.

A friend of mine bought a premier kit that had a stencil german drum co. FT shell,it looked like a sonor and was deeper than the depth, like 15 x 14,beautiful beech shell and had no Edge except a slight round over to the outside,It would tune and resonate if you cranked the heads to high be bop territory.

2000,

Last time we talked I asked about your drums have`n the small logo lugs and the large logo lugs on the same drum. This was never done in the factory,..eva !! They stopped useing small logo lugs in 1979 and switched to the new hardware for 1980, storeing the boxes that were left for repairs and additional add-on orders.

What are the sizes ? Concert toms arer longer than resonate drums and if they were cut down the badge is gonna be off-set !! and the tom mount will be off-set if they were phonic plus. With Sonor, (I don`t know why) they place the tom mounts on concert toms up near the top of the drum. Pics. would sure help out !!

Look for where the hardware and badges are placed. Then tell me what you find !!

The edges on ALL Phonics are spoon bit 45 degrees, and the last two layers are 45 degrees the opposite way !! That`s the difference between Super Champions and Phonics !!(plus the snap-lok).

I`ll look on your site for clues.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

The sizes are in my signature. The badges are centered, but the hardware is not, and placed more toward the batter head. The only pics I have are on my bands websites which are also listed in my signature, and my own personal facebook. I have pics on my cell phone, but they are too large to upload, even after I crop them down, and I dont have the card reader that enables me to upload the pictures from my card in my phone.

It is quite possible that existing concert tom stock was dipped into at the factory, and bottom lugs were installed to complete the order. This is the only scenario I can picture with the bearing edge process being bypassed.

2000,

Your drums look correct except for the small logo lugs mixed in, It suggests that they could be converted by someone from CT to TT. You`ll find factory large logo on Centennial badges from 79, but only on the FT. You wont find factory small logo on your badges. Your`s are 80`s Phonics,.. the mount flange is bigger for stability so it looks higher. The CT and TT in the 80`s are the same, the pluses are squared.

I noticed something on your kick off to the right,..is that a cymbal arm mount ? It don`t belong there !!

If you put the correct spoon bit edges on the bottoms,..other than the serial#, you couldn`t tell the differences.

If you don`t mind me asking,...What are you gonna replace them with ? I ask because I got some bad news for ya about Sonor wood finnishes after the 80`s,...Except for the limmited 25 issued, $25,000 Jet Sets, the natural wood finnishes are engineered over poplar. (fake) There are some hardware tricks involved also, (Taiwan)..but depending on what you get,..I`ll let ya know !!

Yes, those are combo tom/cymbal stands. I have 2 of those, one for the upper tom, and one for the mounted floor tom, both have the cymbal arms.

And I was looking at trading for either a Pearl VMX kit, 7x8, 8x10, and 9x12 racks, a 16x16 floor, and 22x18 kick or a Sonor Force 3005 with 9x12 rack, and 16x18 and 18x18 floor and 22x20 kick. I just NEED to upgrade kits, but I dont have the cash at hand to go buy one and take mine out of commission. It sucks, because this was my first kit, I myself have had it for 10 years(was my last big present to myself before my daughter was born), but times they are tough, and sacrifices have to be made sometimes.

I don`t know much about the VMX, but if you get a 3005 in any stage it`s relatively in-expencive and very road worthy. They come with 400 series hardwareand are good sounding drums but I personally would not give up Phonics for any F-series or Pearl drum !! Modern drums from all the big Co. have too much heavy mountings and "bling" that they had to invent the isolator system and that don`t help much !! I have never heard any negative feedback about Phonics of any kind. They`re hot on the Sonor geeks` list even more now !!
