Brian Wilson has been quoted as saying he didnt care for hi.hats and therefore Dennis and Hal Blaine hardly used them in the Beach Boys records, anyone notice that b4?

yep! Often times it's a tambourine instead. Many many songs, he's just hitting the snare with both sticks at the same time.

I don't hear much of any cymbals in general on Beach Boys stuff, particularly the later stuff. Then again my ears are shot from 45 years of drumming.

I know Dennis used a couple of them and you can see him playing them in videos but they don't seem to be very prominent on the studio recordings.

I never noticed high hats totally gone on most of their singles?

Maybe the Pet Sounds and Smile era, but they seem to be there on band tracks from the car and surf era tracks.

No hihats used here. I've heard it said that Dennis couldn't play? He played open-handed, which was unusual, but he could play.

That's a Rogers kit, complete with Swivo stands. He was a Rogers endorser, shown in the early 60's catalogs...

But, it's easy to hear the hats on this track...and a lot of others as well.

Nice to hear Brian singing in his prime.
