The plating come out fine on the tom mount. The problem is that I should have spent a lot more time finishing the surface before I plated it.

My goal is to have this kit look like when it was new, but not better. I've been trying to find the balance between under and over doing it and erred on the side of underdone on this one.

Most "show" plating starts with copper first. It is very soft and when polished can fill a lot of imperfections prior to the nickel. From what I can tell none of the Slingy hardware was copper plated first and I want to stick to that. On the other hand they were working with new materials and I am dealing with materials that have seen better days (just like me).

The t-rods came out nice because the heads are brass and easy to polish, and the sharts are easy to clean up with emery cloth and wet/dry. I did some old style floor tom leg mounts and they came out nice too because they were relatively rough when new. The tom mount has a lot of flat surface area right where you can see it that really shows imperfections. I'll give it another go after I get the rest of the incidental stuff done.
