Nickel or Brass?

Loading...

Hi , I wonder if somebody knows about the nickel hardware of my WFL 6.5"x14" Supreme Concert Snare from 1957.

My question is:

The nickel hoops, do they contain brass or not? (see picture...)

I'm very curious about the answer for my 53 year old drum.

Thanks in advance!

Your hoops are nickel-plated.

From vintagemore2000

will a magnet stick to the rims? if not then they are NOB if it does stick then it's steel!

If you're not familiar with the abbreviaton, "NOB" stands for "Nickel Over Brass".

Some other common abbreviations:

COB = Chrome Over Brass

COS = Chrome Over Steel

COW = Chrome (wrap) Over Wood, specific to drum shells

Hi, Skydog! Yes, I understand NOB, because COB is something I have been thinking about a lot the last days and I have just ordered COB rims from the US to upgrade my "Pink Champagne" Jazz Festival snare. I have already taken away the COS rims from the snare.

Well, I'm very glad now. Because now I know that I have one 50s snare, NOB and one 60s snare with COB rims soon!

Thanks a lot for your knowledge!

See Ya!
