Calling Luddy Likers...

Picked up this Woody Ludwig snare a Cpl days back..

Couldn't say no..

Have LOTS of pics ..

Its Stamped inside the shell DEC * 30 * 1970.

Its in good shape / but the badge was removed and reinstalled poorly..

Looks like somebody removed a wrap (guessing)

No extra holes / But missing the dampener..

Could everybody chime in and tell me what they see..!

Wood type / history / any mods / etc..

Size... 15" X 6.5"...8 bowtie Lugs.

Wires/Lugs/hoops/strainer/buttend look to be orig & good shape.

1 of the wires came off,but looks 2 b full length,so easy 2 put back n place.?

Most of the rods are orig except maybe 3 or 4..

Its In round and lays flat..Interior is natural finish / no paint.

Tried looking thru the dampener hole but I can't tell how many ply.??

Looks to be 3 ...but the re stain bled over the plys..!

I would suspect that this drum had a wrap on it at one time.

I'd find a muffler here on VDF or ebay, replace the beat up badge and grommet with one of the reproduction keystones available on ebay, polish the chrome, polish the wood with Minwax Furniture Polish...and play it! Nice snare.

Ok...

I do have an original keystone badge from 1968/9

Is the b/o badge original to the drum...based on the yr made .vs serial #.?

What about plys.? Wood type...etc...

Thxs again.

with the re-rings present, that's a 3 ply. its mahogany on the exterior, poplar in the middle and appears to be maple on the interior.

This is an "Auditorium " snare, & the badge is correct. The serial number dates it to c. 1971. I would fix, clean & keep the badge regardless of condition. The wood needs to be sealed or wrapped , & that can be done several different ways, as to your liking. (I like the natural look of a wood finish. The shells of this period w/ the Natural Maple interior were the best shells Ludwig made.)

Thxs Mike..

I was guessing 3ply,hard to tell..

Also wasn't sure about the diff/ plys...It looks like Maple on the inside..

wasn't sure about the outter ply..?

I'm use to Rogers, where its a 3 or 5 ply Maple thruout..

Thxs.

Thank you for all the details..

The stamp date inside is Dec30 1970 .. so if the serial is correct for 71/.

That's perfect..Think i'l keep the badge / just fix it..

As for the shell / either refinish or rewrap.!

**One of the wires loosened from the end / what can be used to reattach it.?

I don't wanna break out the heat gun and cause more problems..!

I welcome all comments/info ...etc pls.

if its a snare wire broken from the assembly, i'd just snip it clean at the other end..
