A very self deprecating guy!

But anyone can play like I do, yet that's what I love about it in a way. Anyone can do it, really. Maybe they can't do it the way I do it and it is no big deal to do it, but not anyone can play like Max Roach. You can't play like Joe Morello. Not many people can play like that guy and there aren't many people who can play like Jake Hanna. There are very few people in the world who can play that good. There are very few people in this world who can play like Louis Bellson. But there are a million kids who can play like me.

Charlie Watts can do more with open air, especially on his hats, than most can do with the whole kit!

Not to diss Drum! magazine but one year of it was enough. Every month some unknown metal or speed drummer on the cover leaving me scratching my head and bored. Older drummers got the last page of the magazine. That's about it.

I always fancy Charlie using hollow sticks. He hits hard (not Heavy metal hard but he is not a sissy) but there is a certain "tenderness" on each of his strokes. Kinda like a gentle giant. He is so simple but there is huge deepness on his playing. No one plays like him. He has the swing and the authority. There's no words to explain how good he is. Those cut down chinas and old no name crashes...That blonde Gretsch. Always a sharp dressed man...Charlie Watts.
