Nice Camco Re-listed Last viewed: 2 days ago

Had this on my watch list, seller had a BIN at $2495 with free ship....with a reserve...bidding got up to $1375, so it didn't sell, he re-lister it at a BIN only, of 2k added $200 ship, other than the mod made on the tom mounts, pretty nice kit if you want to sound of the camco's and don't the slight mod done. I like it, and for $1500 with free ship I'd be in on this one what do you think?

Agree,... very nice set of Camcos.

Probably not a lot of interest from the die-hard collectors with its obvious modifications, missing BD T-rods and non-original hoops but as a player/gigging kit, an absolutely killer set.

If the original hardware would cover the holes drilled for the aftermarket mounts I'd say 1500.00 would be reasonable. Here is a shot of the last kit I saw with a finish looking just as nice. I think it sold in less than 24hrs. at Maxwells.

Okay, prepare for a mini rant:

If you want to gig that kit, or really any Camco with a post (I've never played a Camco rail mount, so I've no comment there) that is a good change. If all you do is stick it in the corner and look at it, don't buy that one.

My Camco kit is big for it's day. 24, 13, 14, 16, 18, and that's all toms and bass drum. Weeks after I bought the kit, over 25 years ago, the lighthouse mount (that's what I call it) broke. I knew it was going to, and luckily it broke at rehearsal. How did I know? Well, even light thumpers like me can make the rack toms bounce like Silicon Sally dancing in front of the stage. I was also lucky that I bought a large box of Camco parts for next to nothing, before the Camco craze started, and have spare, original parts. I quickly changed the rack toms to isolation mounts and hung 'em on heavy cymbal stands... works great. That works even better since now I only use one rack tom.

When I took the 'pool' pictures of the kit, I pulled the iso mounts off, stuck the post back into the bass drum and took the pictures. Then replaced all the iso stuff and put the post back in it's case.

Okay, rant over... how's your day going?

Oh yeah! If you're here, and not there...

Happy Veterans Day! And thanks for all you did.

Fishwaltz, I wouldn't call your comments a rant.

I have 2 Camco sets for the moment and I would never gig or rehearse with the original tom-mounts. First thing I did with both sets was removing the tom-mounts and BD-post and I hung my toms in rim-mounts. I also removed the tone-controllers.

The Yamaha mount on that set is probably the best ever built tom mount and it looks like it's been done professionally so nothing wrong there.

As slingerland and slingalud said in their posts, 1500$ would be a good price for this kit. For 2K and above, you'd expect to have a collector grade set.

I gig regularly with the Camco post on two different kits. It works just fine. It's all in where you place the Tom on the arm in how it will resonate.

I wouldn't pay $1500 for that kit with mods but if you like the kit and think $1500 is fair, go for it.

Yes, Happy Veterans Day!!! "God Bless America" Rant and Rave all you like, we don't mind...Virgin BDs are the way to go anyway...Having your rack tom/s bouncing is just plain embarrassing. The only bass drum mount I ever cared for was the 1970s Ludwig Rail Mount. But they were probably better suited to traditional grip. Whoever buys it is going to fall in love with the bass drum and that's one killer combination, Oaklawn 24,13,16...Now all you would need is an 18 or a second 16.

Hello all, I am new to this forum and recently purchased the kit in this thread. Very excited to receive it. This is the first vintage kit I have ever owned so feed back on things I should look for when I inspect it would be appreciated. Also if any one has any input on further detail as far as the exact age that would also be great. I am assuming it is a 6ply but can someone confirm that. The other thing I was wanting to get some information on is maintenance and caring for the kit to maintain it. It seems to of been very well maintained. Hope all is well and thanks in advance.

Great to have you with us and congrats on your kit purchase. Start a thread of your own on the questions you have asked they will get lost here on this thread.
