Any suggestions on how to remove the paint from the badge without ruining the badge would be appreciated Help2

Nice drum. What badge is that? Does it have the tan enamel paint on it? Or is it just plain brass. I blew up the pic but was still hard to tell if it's the first or second oval badge. Do you know if the paint is latex or oil base? Whats the plan for the rest?

I am waiting for the drum to ship but I can tell the badge is brass and tan print, not the dog tag one. I plan on removing the paint and leaving the wood natural. Other then that the drum is pretty much complete!

If the paint is oil based, use lacquer thinner. It can be bought at any hardware store, and it's just called lacquer thinner. I wouldn't use a heat gun, as the heat could change the color of the brass badge.

I would use a "green" product that is safe on that badge. Lac thinner will take the paint off but might be a little too hot for the badge.

On the badge I'd go hot water an old toothbrush. Looks to be small brass badge. Same as my earlier big brass badge. Too much polishing will toast the Black ink top layer. Just take my word on that one :-)

Hardware looks chrome. Good time to get a tumbler. That drum will clean up top-notch. Like the tuning key holder.

I finally got around to restoring this drum. I just graduated from Portland State and spent most of last weekend working on it. Still needs some work, I messed up the stain on one side and will have to figure that out soon.
