Newer Ludwig help?

Hey y'all. Picked these up today at ye ol' pawn shoppe for a song. Question - what are they? I'm not too up on newer Luddys, but I THINK they're newer Classics (7-ply, really thin shells with NO reinforcement rings). When, thereabouts, would these have been made? Are they American?

22" bass, 13" & 16" toms, with a 14" x 6" or 6 1/2" snare. Bass and toms all have mini-classic lug casings, not the big ones...but the snare has whopper lug casings - bigger/longer than anything I see on Ludwig's website. Maybe the Fab shell pack with added snare? BD is not virgin though...has regular old tom mount bracket.

Anything y'all can enlighten me on regarding what series and age these are is surely appreciated!

Man I hate this era's inner ply ink stamping! If you are going to stamp it, make it legible! Couldn't they afford some decent ink?

Other than that, a high quality kit to be sure. I vote Classic Maple, late 2000's, unless someone else can decipher the hieroglyphics.

These are 6-ply classic maple... stamp looks like 1 06 (Jan 2006) to me.

That's a Ludwig Classic Maple Fab-4 kit from 2006. Top of the line at the time. These are 9-ply maple shells. They will sound fantastic with Coated Ambassadors. Jump For Joy

I thought only era-specific Rockers were 9-plys.

At first glance these looked like six-ply, however with a closer look I can see seven, which is in line with the "modern" classic maple lay-up (2-outter, 3-middle, 2-inner).

Always much easier to tell when the head is off, the lighting is good and I'm using a magnifying glass to aid my tired old eyes!

Run a damp cloth over the edge, the layers will change colors and easy to count.

No, the Classic Maple series went 9-ply sometime in the early 2000's. I count 9-plies plus the wrap. Plus the date stamp puts them as 2006, which is in the time frame as being 9-ply shells.

OK, here is a learning opportunity for me, and perhaps for others. I've attached the best pic my crappy phone camera would take of the shell. I can definitely count more than 6 plies, and maybe 9. My questions are:

-Why are the plies different colors? Maybe because they were sawed on different grains of the maple wood?

-Is that thinnest, inner ply of maple counted as a ply? If so, from what I can see, that would make 9 total plies, confirming Ludwig-dude's input.
