Newbie to the vintage drum world. Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Howdy folks!

I'm actually new to drumming, but hey everyone has got to start somewhere. I had been wanting to play with a vintage set, and found one for $60. The guy really didn't know anything about it, so I'm hoping someone here will. The bass drum has two rail consolettes mounted to it and while no badges, it is stamped Ludwig on the L-rod crash holder. It also came with a Speed King that is stamped with a Ludwig logo (early logo) but no WFL logo. I have been able to find out about the floor tom, which is a Leedy from 1949 to 1950 (Thanks vintage drum guide!). But its weird in the since that it has some sort of a crash stand mounted to it that is the same style of hardware as the rest of the drum. Does anyone have any info that can help!?

Soap Box PICTURES....PICTURES........PICTURES!!!

Please:rolleyes: Didn't mean to shout, I'm sorry, first off WELCOME Welcome I'll bet somebody here can help you but we need more info. Pictures of the insides of the drums, the badges, the lugs, and hardware all help determine what a drum is.

This is one of those cases where a picture is worth more than a thousand words. Like Boscoe mentioned, there are a whole lot of visual clues to look at when it comes to identifying and dating drums and a positive ID often requires piecing a number of little clues together -- things that the average person wouldn't even think to look at or describe.

As for the "crash stand" mounted to your floor tom, it's quite possible that someone added it after the fact. It's pretty common to find mismatched hardware on old drums. Your drums have probably gone through a few owners in the past half-century or more and it wouldn't be a shock if at least one of those owners made some modifications to suit their playing needs.

the date for the leedy floor tom should be stamped inside the shell,4010 just an example but this is what it will look like 4 numbers stamped inside the shell! when you say cymbal holder you aren't referring to this are you this is a drum key holder, not a cymbal mount!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I see, and I will do my best to get some pictures up for you guys. I dont own a digital camera so its not all that easy. As far as the key holder goes, no it doesn't look like that at all. It looks like one of the leg holder but at the very top of the drum. I promise, pics soon!!!
