Newbie Slingerland advice :)

Loading...

I just got the itch to get a more musical sounding set of drums and thought I'd, while I was at it, try for an American made set as well. I've always wanted a set of American "vintage" drums. I have a massive 11 piece dble bass '90's Yamaha set that I am selling - it's an inner ply of Basswood and the rest Luan/Mahogony. I put a deposit on the Slingerland set I have in the attached pic (to be picked up next Sat :) ). It appears to be two 12" concert toms, 3 - 2 headed rack toms, a FT, & Bass. I was told the Bass is 24" & the Floor tom 18"...the other three I am unsure. I was also told it is around the 70's - possibly early 80's. I am paying only $450.00 for the set.

Can anyone who knows Slingerland possibly give me some indication of what I might expect...I know that's open-ended but I'm starting with absolutely no knowledge at all on Slingerlands and I guess I'd like some assurance that I'm making a smart move. Any ideas (I know the pic is a bit far) on what the shell composition might be? I play classic Rock, Blues, some Country...I have a week & half before I close the deal...am I making a good choice?

Thanks for any help to this newbie :D

Concert toms are old hat. Other than that, everything your getting looks great. Don't worry too much about getting ripped off. If you end up with something you're happy with and you're ok with what you paid, you made out well (this applys moreso to players than to people trying to flip kits).

Very nice score! That's a very good deal actually.

Glad to hear it! I can't wait to hear them...I pick them up next Saturday. Anyone have an idea what type of tom arms these drums use...?
