Newbie here, please help identify my snare drum...

Loading...

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the forum.

I just purchased this snare for $50(apparently mispriced). I really have no idea about premier snare drums, except for there made in England. The salesmen told me it was a 70's vintage snare drum, and should sell for well over $200, he then went on to tell me his new employee mispriced it. Anyhow regarless I am in love with how this snare drum sounds, and it seems to be built very well and would love to get some detailed info on this snare drums if possible.

Any added info on this snare would be really appreciated, thank in advance.

Two questions:

Is the shell extremely low weight?

Or is the shell magnetic? (Hold a magnet next to it.)

It is fairly light weight. It does have a bit of magnatism to it.

A good price. It's especially good that you love the sound. The drum looks like a 1990s chrome over steel, but still English made. A 70s Premier would have a similar throw-off, but holes instead of the strap bracket.

1970s Premier snares sell between £40-80 depending on the size and condition. I bought a mid-70s 6.5" Supra-like copy for £80, but chrome over steel. It sounds nothing like a Supra, but has its own vintage crack and tone. I also have a late 90s 5" chrome over steel (another apparent Supra copy), which has very good projection. I prefer my Supra collection, but they're all great sounds to use in the studio.

Enjoy it!

That's a terrible, horrible drum and I feel SO sorry for you that I'm willing to give you $30 for it.

NOT!

Premier always made beautiful drums that sound unique. It's worth many times what you paid for it. Check out some old pictures of the Who with Keith Moon on Premier drums.

Those snares are crisp like lettuce - you scored big time!
