New York Pro snare drum

Hey everyone, does anybody know anything about this company New York Pro? I saw this snare down at a local pawn shop and thinking about buying it. It's a cheap drum. I think they were made out of China, but I don't know. I like the looks of the lugs. Kinda like Yamaha's and the fact of the drum having die cast rims. Sounds decent, but I don't know. I know there is no resale value in it at all, but that's not what I would be buying it for. Playing purposes only. It's a 6.5x14 which I am looking for. Does this look like maple or some other cheap chinese wood that they would be manufacturing these things of? Strainer decent, fairly smooth. And it's a 10 lug! That's a big plus. I can get it for $125.00. What do you think?

thanks,

I saw a New York Pro musical item just recently, on craig's list

I think it was a guitar

But before finding this 5 piece New York Pro drum kit

(bass drum pictured)

I too, had never even heard of the brand

Mine are Chinese as well, and have a few things I like

The name being one of them,

the other was instead of the usual six or eight lug chrome snare drum

the kit came with a matching 6.5" deep wooden snare....the low mass Mapex-like lugs are kinda cool also

but not the same type as on the snare featured above

Well that is another plus of the drum. It is a 10 lug snare. Sounds fine, but won't know until i get out to a gig to play it...

Looks exactly like a Groove Percussion snare I have. Those were sold Exclusively by Sam Ash. Many other drums like Sound Percussion (Guitar Center/Musicians Friend) have those same exact lugs. Probably all made from the same factory in China. I have seen other New York Pro Items, including sticks, stick bags, guitar bags etc.

All that matters is if it sounds good to you. You can't really go wrong with that snare. Even if you don't like it, the die cast hoops are probably worth what you paid!

Yes, this is basically a Groove Percussion snare drum! Nice lugs, good shell, die-cast hoops and a nice strainer. I've seen OCP (Orange County Percussion) use these strainers! Cost almost $125 for a set of 14" 10-lug hoops, so I think the asking price is more than fair! You might have to install a good set of heads, but you'll be rewarded with a great sounding snare drum!

Does anyone know what kind of shell that looks like? I'm kind of thinking birch since it's a cheaper wood. Nothing wrong with birch. The drum sounds fantastic. I am very happy with drum. You don't always have to have name brand to have a good sounding set....martinbr
