New snare day!!!! Last viewed: 1 day ago

Last night I had big band practice (which is cool enough in itself) but when the bass player got there he mentioned to me he had a drum that I could buy if I was interested. He said it was old and wasn't sure I'd want it as it was a beginner drum he bought for his daughter in the earluy 1980s. When I hear that I brace myself to see a heavily pitted Pearl or CB700.

So he pulls out a case, opens it, and there is a WMP Pioneer from 1965. Best of all (IMHO) is that it has nickel hardware. I love the look of nickel.

Needs some cleaning and new heads, but it's clean, and it was cheap!

Argh. Hope luck strikes me one day. That's a $300-400 snare on a good day. Congrats!

OK maybe not $400 but the market is up. Pioneers in wmp seem to be more coveted. Or I'm looking in the wrong places..

This went for $269. [ame]http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ludwig-60s-Vintage-Pioneer-Snare-Drum-White-Marine-Pearl-With-Case-and-Stand-/191055709600?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item2c7bcec5a0[/ame]

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
