I use a Ludwig Coated Medium or Heavy head. They are excellent for those snares.

What is the difference between the heavy and the medium head?

... a couple of ml's thickness. I like the Medium for softer resonant playing and the Heavy for a drier sound. That's all there is to it. These heads just "work" for this snare ... imo.

The Medium is ever so slightly lighter feeling than an Ambassador and the Heavy is lighter feeling than an Emperor.

Hope this helps.

I like a coated Emperor on my Supraphonic (with a clear Diplomat snare side below). I get a great crack that commands my guitarist's attention and the rimshots are lethal.

Results may vary, depending on tuning, stick choice, and playing style.
