New "old" member to my cymbal family..

A few weekends ago, I answered an ad on Craigslist for a drumset and cymbals. After I bought them and came home, I started to inspect this cymbal closer, I couldn't see any stamp when I bought them, but I loved the sound.

It has a few flea bites and 2 small cracks at the bell. 22 inches in diameter and get this.........weighs 1860 grams. There is 5 holes for rivets.

Although I'm a fan of patina, the black stick marks just annoy me and I want to clean this, but my vintage gut says no. I would love to hear opinions.

Drumaholic, I would like your expertise as well as thoughts on cleaning and drilling out the end of the crack. The hole on this is slightly keyholed, but I believe it might of been 1/2" diameter, as the plastic post it sits on now is very tight.

I have a very old paper thin 20" that I think is Italian........

Has a huge bell on it

Doesn't sound that good though...................

That has to be some kind of a record. Especially for the Hollow Block era, they tend to run a bit heavy. I have to ask, are you positive of those numbers? You sure it's not a 21"? And was it an accurate scale? I've had a LOT of 22" old A's, but nothing close to that thin.

As far as cleaning goes, I would probably leave it alone, but mostly out of laziness and not caring about stick marks. The only thing that bugs me is gram weights and other info written in marker under the bell. I don't know why, but I always clean that off with acetone right away. I'm sure someone here will have a good method of cleaning off the stick marks.

I wouldn't mess with small cracks at the bell hole. But to prevent them from getting any worse I would recommend not using that felt washer on top. Letting the cymbal move freely relieves stress at the bell hole. It also opens up the sound just slightly and lets the cymbal "breathe".

Bill, check the new pics and yes, I'm 100% sure on the weight, give or take 10-15 grams. This is a Hollow block stamp, not Hollow logo

And those were 7A wood tips!!! Imagine what my usual 5A's would do to her.

wow, I'd be so mesmerised by that wobble while playing I'd probably forget where I was in the song...actually this happens now without a wobbly ride.

LOL!

Wow, congrats on that great score of an awesome sounding cymbal. Love the hollow block stamp logo's. Yours is super light with incredible wobble. I wouldn't clean it.
