New (Old) Ludwig Standard Snare Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I bought this Ludwig Standard snare today for $75. I have a room full of expensive snares, and this one sounds better than almost all of them! It's definitely working its way into my rotation...

I'm using my ugly acrolyte these days too!

They just sound good! I said one time it's hard to make these things sound bad, and I think that's the truth! Shot heads etc. doesn't matter!

These drums sound fantastic and usually fly below the radar. Made from the same shell material as the Acrolites and the Supras, just with no center bead. I've got one like yours and a chrome one. On the shells with the finish like yours, they made one with a matte finish and one with a bit more sheen. Great score!

Great score! She's in great shape.

I've got to get one of these. My Acrolite is my favorite snare, and I have a 6.5" Rocker II that sounds great so I really want to try the "Standard Acrolite."

I'd like to own a Standard or Rocker kit someday, but I play 20" bass drum, which makes the search a bit more difficult.

Awesome deal.. My Acrolite is my trusty workhorse snare, and i'm using it more than ever now, to the point that if my Supraphonic was alive, it would probably "snuff" out my Acrolite in the middle of the night because it's not getting that much use. But now, thanks to another fellow forum member, the one snare i'll be using for future gigs and projects, will be my pre-serial Ludwig Pioneer in WMP..I can't believe the sound of that drum.. It's got everything a drummer looks for in a snare drum, and they're reasonably priced..Many of these so called "student" vintage Ludwig snare drums are anything but these days, and can stand their ground with any modern $500 snare drum..

God bless the Ludwig aluminum shell, and the idea of lighter/less hardware installed on

the same pro line drum shells !Yes Sir
