Again, another one of those..."did he really say that"...moments. 26-15-18 and the Coliseum 8" snare...who the hell, where on earth, what...I can only name one band that filled up enough stadiums for that many years to want drums that....huge. And they did it year in, year out for 30 years..well, not that many years filling stadiums, but the last 15 years they played they filled up all the monster stadiums in the country, each and every year, all summer long...can you guess who it was? But neither of the drummers played Ludwigs. One is a dedicated N&C guy..the other just has a stage full of of every imaginable drum, pad, midi, stump....whatever he can beat on and get a tone out of...The Beam....that was a monster sound....especially when you are tri....well, not in your right mind....
You just stumped me, man. Van Halen maybe? They are the only ones, in my few days of research, that I have found that is known to use a Coliseum...

Not really who...the only band I know of that toured constantly for years and was able to fill up stadiums across the country day after day was the Grateful Dead. From about 1983 until Jerry died, the summer tours were all the major staudiums, amphitheaters and arenas, and they filled them to capacity ++ every time. I don't know of another band that could do that for that long. Not too many people realize just how big a deal they were. Many people are simply unaware that they did this for years. Mickey Hart is arguably one of the best drummers in the world and many drummers shun him, while many more flock to him. Most American drummers say "Mickey who?" And Bill Kreutzmann is one of the best backbeats going...but he just lays back and tours quietly now.
Mickey is on fire all over the world, touring with the rest of the world's top percussionists.
Bill has been playing N&C for years, while Mickey shuns sponsorship altogether best I can tell.
And these would be the kind of drums to fill a stadium with the sound of drums, while blowing the guts out of lesser venues....although neither ever really played Ludwigs, best I know.
"I enjoy restoring 60s Japanese "stencil" drums...I can actually afford them..."I rescue the worst of the old valueless drums for disadvantaged Children and gladly accept donations of parts, pieces and orphans, No cockroaches, please...

Wow, very informative. These big sizes stump me. The seller told me he was the second owner, he bought it from a man who bought them new in the late 70's, but I don't know if I want to put a lot of stock in what the man says, he sold them for $150 and was sniffing and his nose was plugged up the whole time I was there to get them. The abuse of prescription meds runs rampant in my area and people will sell anything for cheap just to get a fix. I wonder if he will regret it if he ever sobers up?

The guy probably won't even remember having owned drums when/if he sobers up...LOL!
So let's recap:
I almost have a mystery drum set.
I'm looking for a set of 1/2 inch spur mounts, not the spurs themselves, but the mounts. Preferably, the ones with metal wing bolts, not plastic, but plastic is cool (it's what's on them now).
The Greatful Dead used huge drums like mine, but not Ludwigs.
Here's another stumper: I got a snare a little while back. It is chromed Ludalloy, with 10 lugs, just like a Supraphonic. With pointy B/O badges. Sounds just like one...but it has bowtie lugs like the Acrolite. Any ideas?
I have so much mystery gear that I can't find any info about.

Sounds like a supra that either was ordered that way, or was retrofitted by a previous owner. I've seen one of two of these in the past before, and they did appear to be factory. Hey, with Ludwigs, anything was (and still is) possible.
Thank you. The snare has been bothering me. It's good to know you have seen a few in the past, it makes me feel better about your theory. It matches my theory, but I got kind of let down when people told me that I'm full of crap and it is a student model (with 10 lugs?) That's Guitar Center for you, I guess. The drum guy there is a "Mr. Personality" who thinks he is better and knows more than anyone. He literally called this snare a "piece of crap". It's god to know I have trustworthy and informed friends here that actualy know what they are talking about. Thank you so much guys!

I would trust NO ONE at Guitar Center.........the ones in my area know ZERO about drums and how to play them. I've overheard their conversations before and all those kids care about is how many BPM they can play, or check out this latest "blast beat"! How about a nice groove FOR THE SONG DUDE? I use them to get sticks quick or heads in a pinch (but they never seem to carry what I use! UGH!) and thats about it.
Ludwig did make special order 10-lug acrolites back then, but the finish would not have been chrome. As far as the drum being junk....AHHH....no. Tell the moron at your guitar center that he has no clue as to what he speaks of. Sorry to him that its not the latest DW/Tama/Pearl piece of garbage that he thinks is cool this month. Its a REAL Ludwig, so its going to sound great no matter what! :D
