Just got this set yesterday. Has a metal or chrome shell. Any tips for restoration?

Congrats ! Nice old Slingys...looks like the 3-ply maple interior shells, puts it mid 60's-mid 70's or so.

Browse the Restoration section, and maybe start a new thread there. If you can be more specific about the condition, that'd help.

1) Are the wraps in decent shape ? Any cracks, tears, or seam lifting ? If they are just dirty...first clean 'em with a household spray cleaner or moist towelette to get the grunge off. Then, for shine, try an automotive vinyl spray cleaner/polish. A lotta times that will bring back the lustre a bit.

(better to remove all hardware when doing this).

2) How's the chrome ? Rusted ? Pitted ? Not much you can do about pitting (bubbling). It's there for good. For rust, however, you can soak the parts in DAWN dishwashing liquid for a few days, then rinse and clean with an extra-soft toothbrush, and dry thoroughly.

If no rust, just grungy/cloudy chrome....you can either go with 0000 steel wool or some folks suggest using aluminum foil dipped in water, if I recall. Either will clean up the chrome nicely.

3) Any damage to the shells or edges themselves ? How about the chrome snare ? Is it rusted, flaking, pitted, or just dirty ?
