Hello to all fellow drummers and collectors,

This is my first post. I have been involved with drums since the age of 4 and now at 40 something, I am still at it. I have a question of identification regarding an older model Ludwig snare drum I picked up at a pawn shop years ago while playing with a top 40 band in Ontario Canada. I believe it is a Ludwig "Black Beauty" with ocean scroll work, but I would like to nail down the exact year and rough value of the drum. If anyone can assist with this please jump in. I will attach some photos that I hope will help. The drum is a shallow 10 lug, ocean scroll work, chrome coloured rim and hardware. Thanks for your help. JR

The engraving pattern on your drum was discontinued in 1926.

Thanks to all 3 replies I received today regarding the Ludwig Black Beauty.

Judging from your comments, it appears to be a 1926 model. I was curious why it has chrome coloured rims and hardware, when the others I have seen online have brass? Any ideas...when did Ludwig start using chrome?

Thanks JR

This is where Mike Curotto would come in handy. I think that it was an option on the "deluxe".
