New Member, Need help identifying a drum kit

Loading...

Hey all,

I play a set of Sonor Force 3001s, but yesterday I came into this set of Pearl jet black drums from roughly 1970-1975. It has a floor tom, 2 rack toms, 2 contra-toms, a snare, a bass drum, kick pedal, cymbal and snare stands. the hi-hat stand is not original, and the cymbals in the picture are not original either.

-the bass drum is 22 inches, and 13 inches deep, and and has 8 lugs.

-the toms are 12, 13, and 16 inches

-the contra toms are 15 and 16 inches

-the snare is 14 inches, and 5 inches deep.

They were made in taiwan, it says in various places. Otherwise I can find no serial number or any sort of specific identifier. I've attached a few photos in case they help.

Anyone here who can tell me a bit about what i have, I would appreciate it.

I got it from the original owner who took good care of it, and it sounds really good.

Cheers!

I am going to say 1976,since that seems to be when they started phasing out the hex-rod mounts.Maybe later.I don't think the snare is a Pearl, unless it has a Pearl badge.Looks like a generic Pearl-made drum.

Thanks! The snare does have a pearl badge, and 1976 definitely fits with what I've been able to discover...

Can anyone tell me what kind of wood it might be made of, or how to figure that out? Any other information would also be welcome.

Since there is no secondary badge saying "wood-fiberglass" or "all maple"they are most likely Luan Mahogany. They are the standard line Pearl drums, with a higher level of fit and finish than say Maxwin or other stencil kits.I have a Royce kit of that same era and it's my go-to GB kit.

Some of these shells also have a maple interior ply, so a good look inside will tell more of the story. Some pix of the interiors off all shells would be most helpful. Not all would have the maple, but then again, they may as it was a crap shoot as to what shells got included in what kits. Tom is one of our resident Pearl guys, so you're on the way to getting it all.
