New Gretsch vintage

I just saw a video from Maxwell drums and Steve Junior was playing a really sweet looking red wine kit that he ordered and had them do a completely vintage build out....including a rail consolette that looks like a hybrid of the old Ludwig one! It really looked nice. The drums sounded like vintage Gretsch drums, too....terrible in the low range but incredible in the upper tuning ranges. -my opinion, anyway.

I don't really enjoy the playing in the video but the sound of the drums is pretty Gretsch-y! Go figure! ;)

They look like Remo coated, and we all know heads can make or break the current sound of your kit.

One thing that I wonder about is why Gretsch is now using a vent hole in all the drums. That was one of the interesting aspects of the original toms - no vent hole. Bass and snare drums had them, but not the toms. And now the toms have the vents. I'd like to know why they made that decision.

Wrap is very nice. I wonder if they will reproduce the emerald green version.

Sweet kit and raises another one of those Gretsch questions I keep meaning to ask. Was there a time period when Gretsch swapped over to long lugs on 14x14 floor toms, or did that go back and forth over the years depending, perhaps, on what was in the stock bins?

Yes. There's been no pinpointable evidence to the contrary. Now the large lug on a small tom! Oy Vey! What a sight...but far less common; but I've seen two in the past year...

One over at DFO a Burgundy Sparkle and this one on Reverb. Big lug on a small tom.. whew. That'd take some eyeball getting used to :D

I had two RBs at the same Time. Should have Kept this one (and sold the RWP) The Gold Satin was the better set. I kept the Red Wine because of the color (Mistake. on my part)
