New Drum Day! 50's Slingerland Radio King (floor tom recommendations needed)

Loading...

Hello All!

I am new to this forum, and a long time reader of your great advice! My 50's Slingerland Radio King just arrived (22" kick and tom)! I purchased the snare separately (stamped 1958). I got both for a pretty good price and the condition is pretty good, aside from the normal wear and tear you'd expect.

Since it did not come with a floor tom I wanted to ask for your suggestions on what to add. I know finding a 16" Slingerland floor tom in this aqua blue sparkle is going to be tough but I do need a floor tom.

Also, is there anything I can polish the wrap with to give it more of a shine?

Ignore the height of everything. I havent fine tune it yet (the kids are sleeping!). I'm planning on swapping out the heads and I have the rest of the cymbal arm on its way.

Thank You!

TM

Sparkling blue pearl was a very popular finish. You should be able to locate a matching floor tom.

Thanks! I think it will take some time. I've been checking eBay, Reverb, and Craigslist. Hopefully one will turn up!

There was a guy selling an aqua blue Slingie set on North Jersey CL a while ago. Look for his ad.

The drum you are hunting for will always be available when you're not looking for it. My hunch is that one or more Slingerland floor tom in the desired color will appear on eBay or some other selling site within a month. Someone already said it in this thread. Blue Sparkle drums were one of the most popular colors throughout the mid 20th century.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I was able to find a matching Slingerland floor tom! I probably paid more than I should have but it was the same matching aqua hue and from the same era. The kit is now complete!
