New (2 me) Pearl 4214 and dating help

Loading...

I just got home from drum teching at the Montreal International Jazz Festival/ Francofolies de Montreal with a 50 pound bag of lightly used drum heads and the snare I have been looking for for a while, a COB Pearl 4214. I started high school in '79 and am a big Stewart Copeland fan. A few months ago I grabbed a Pearl B-714D, which is also a 3-line COB without the parallel strainer, but 6.5 deep. I really like that one but still wanted a 4214 (5 deep) & finally managed to snag this one, which needs a serious cleaning, butt and strainer plates and a tone control.

The catalogs seem to put this one somewhere between '75 and '78, but the later ones seem to have the grommet placed below the 3 lines, not in them like this one, so I'm assuming mid '70's. Can anyone clarify this for me? Much thanks!

Here's the brothers COB, my Pearl B-714D with his little brother 4214. They both sound great! I'm still hoping to put a more exact date on the 4214 for posterity. Cheers!
