Never Like To Hear This....

Loading...

So I was recently speaking with my ex. The one whose father had given me my 1950's Radio King about ten years ago while me and her were together. Me being me, I actually asked about the drums, and that if he ever needed anything done with them that I would be more than glad to help. Be it with a repair, to help sell them, any help I could give. She then informed me that recently they had discovered that the basement had flooded. Since they never use it, it remained unknown for an undisclosed amount of time. Needless to say everything down there was covered in black mold and the drums are more than likely, sadly long gone. I know they are just drums, but this guy had a perfect set of Radio Kings. I saw them once, they were absolutely perfect. No sun damage, no hardware rust, this guy obviously cherished them and kept them nice. He even had them a couple feet off the ground, but my guess is when the basement was full of water, moisture finds a way, and will generally win. I'm holding hope that maybe some of them had been salvaged, but doubtful. Breaks my heart to hear things like this. Drums aside all of those possessions and memories are gone. One and only set the guy ever owned, had it since the 60's.......:(

Iits a sad life sometimes we can never keep things the way they were hope it's all good and they saved

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That's a lot of loss, extremely unfortunate. Having a civil relationship with your ex though, that's good stuff!

Certainly is Mitch. I must say that I am on really good terms with most of my Ex's. Her family was never anything but amazing, and I still refer to her mom as " Ma " when I see her. Hate things like this happening to truly nice people.

That's great and I'm happy to say I have that too. Once you really get to be close to the family, it's forever at that point...

Hopefully not all was lost in the flooded basement...

Very sad to hear about those Radio Kings Jay! Some of the best sounding drums ever made. Great to hear your on good terms with the ex. Been 36 years for me and it'll never happen. We tried for our son and his family but things are too far gone. I'm fine with it though. :D

Glenn.

Most of your Ex's. Good gracious. How many do you have ? Actually I am on good terms with all my x girlfriends except one. Haven't seen or heard from my one and only X wife in 31 years. Kinda partial to my present one.
