Negi snare

Got this 5.5x14, 8-lug Made in Japan(?) Negi snare drum and wonder about age, wood etc. It's the first time I've seen one of these here in Sweden, the very thin shell is wrapped in transparent plastic and the inside is gray painted. Needs cleaning, new snares and some new heads.

Hmmmm never heard of this company before. But this drum certainly looks to be of nicer quality than the standard MIJ drums. States the city in which it's made, the badge and strainer look real nice. Found this other thread on them.

Definitely looks like a Gretsch clone. The links provided by ARCHxANGEL confirm this. Bottom line; a nice drum!

Hi Apostrophe,

That's a nice old 1970s Negi Drums snare made for their market of selling to schools. I have in my drum school here about 4 or 5 13x8" marching snares from Negi with this same throw-off and similar badge. Let me see if I have some photos here on this computer floating around. The quality is quite interesting- the wood shells seem to be luan but with nicely cut re-rings and interior paint.

What can be confusing is Negi Drums also had a kind of custom shop business and still do where they make reallly fine, high-end drums. This definitely helps the brand image. Here are some of those high end Negi Drums. [ame]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn87/Osakabop/ScreenShot2013-10-16at115802PM_zps2a2bf62f.png[/ame]
