I have to raise some $ and I was trying to sell my George Way kit to do it. I haven't had a bite on the Way kit so I'm considering putting Big Blue (the 1930's W&A kit) up for sale. The problem is, it's a one-of-a-kind kit and I have no clue what to ask for it.
HELP!
This kit is a museum piece not a players kit. I think it's best use would be either as an exhibit in a drum/music museum, or as a rental item for period piece Hollywood movies. At any rate I have no clue how to value them. Any advice would be appreciated. Either click the link at the bottom of my post to see photos, or go to the pinned W&A thread in Restoring Vintage Drums forum. Thanks in advance for your input.
The current owner of the W&A drum Co. wrote this about the kit:
"1930's Walberg and Auge Drum Set "Big Blue"
Specs: SIngle Ply Maple Shells with rerings, 14x28 Bass Drum, 7x11, 9x13, 12x14 and 16x16 toms, 5x14 snare. Shells possibly made by Jasper. Rerings and bearing edges fashioned by W&A. Possibly built to 'Perfection' by George Bernard himself (painted black on the inside). All hardware made by W&A. Very majestic! This IS one of the most RARE drum sets in American drum history. Thank you Vintage Drum Forum member John Velez (ID: Purdie Shuffle) from Reading PA for restoring this great monument of American drum innovation and 'Perfection' level craftsmanship! John documented the entire restoration process. Click HERE to read/see more info. It's an amazing process and story!
