Hi - My drummer recently got this kit given to him but we need to find a replacement part for the broken tom arm part. He doesn't have the snare drum and there's no identification on the other drums, except for "Japan" stamped into the tom hardware. I included some photos in the attachments - could someone tell me what kind of kit it is and where I can get parts for it?
Need to identify and find part for old Japan kit
The hardware on the drums (except one) say 'Star' (pre-Tama), I'm guessing mid-1960s or so. As to where to get parts... no clue :)
Alex
Good luck finding the part. Personaly, i would simply go to a metal fabrication shop and have this made for 5 bucks
Looks more like some Pearlstuff!
If you need a Tomholder PM me, i have one:-)
regards

Sorry to contradict: all hardware parts say 'NO' to 'Star': neither lugs, nor tom bracket, nor rail consolette are Star made.;)

Please do, a good chance to learn something :) I had a look at the MIJ section and found this:
http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/japanese_drums/japanese-drums-hardware-identification.htm
The 1965 page seems to feature the same lugs and consolette, though not the same bracket - at least, to my eyes. Is it possible then that both companies shared hardware designs at times??
Alex
You could make one of those real easy with some threaded rod, a couple of nuts and a piece of flat steel.
well, there many possibility...
It look like a generic MIJ set from late 60's. no lug insert, consolette...
It look like a "Gallan" i have sold some month ago (gibson logo style) but the consolette look better than "Aria" or "Riviera". The floor tom feet look like "saturn"..
it's a mixed part, like many...
any re-ring inside? shells finishing? more picture!

Thanks for the info guys - I'll post some more pictures on Thursday. The kit seems in decent condition other than a little rust and corrosion, a missing snare and bass drum hoop and the broken tom arm. I think it's worth putting some time into as a second kit for my friend.
btw, What's a re-ring? I'm just a bass player - lol

Hey...we love bass players here..!
The re rings are a ring of wood (like a hula hoop) !
that is glued to the inside. Of the drum to keep it from breaking if dropped or stepped on...(usually place at the top and bottom edges, just inside where the drum skins go...
Wish I had a pic..hahahaha it'll be. A lot easier..DOH
