Need some input... day in the studio coming up.

Our last time in studio the band took all day to get three songs recorded. We were all in separate rooms... did scratch tracks and then re-ran almost every final on top of those. LONG DAY and I didn’t think the final sounded that much better than the scratch... we’ve played these songs hundreds of times.

I’m going to ask the guys if they would consider a more live style this time around. See if we could get 10 songs recorded. It’s a demo for clubs so it needs to be good but it’s also to share with friends... so more than three songs would be nice.

Just looking for opinions on that idea but also for any experience on live style recording in studio.

I'd go with the live recording. I believe sometimes too much thought and trying to make it perfect is a big waste of time and money. In my experience with club owners, they won't even listen to a cd, because they know trickery can be used to make a mediocre band sound good. They preferred seeing us live or a live video.

I tend to agree with johnnyringo. Although I have not clocked a huge amount of time recording, I can honestly say, like johnnyringo, that too much technical tweaking and studio magic can make for a long day (or week or month or months)! The live feel can be lost. It's the same on old vinyl records. The ones sought after the most are the ones with a few bad notes, feedback and muffed lyrics! I've heard a Roy Orbison tune on which he hit a completely wrong chord! Roy swore, paused for a second and carried on. It was a FANTASTIC cut! Just an opinion.
