Need some help on this Gretsch Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I am hoping the Gurus of Gretsch can help me out here.

I don't recall seeing bearing edges go from inside out. Did Gretsch do this in the 60s? Also is the tom holder correct for a 66 kit? The floor tom legs are wrong I know that. Also the color is Blue Marine Pearl?

And any other items you guys can see that will help.

I was told it is a 66 kit.

The grommet on the bass drum looks funky too. Any ideas?

I should say thats its a 20,12,14 configuration. No snare.

Thanks for any and all help,Ed

I will have to post about 6 times to get all the pics up

I'm no Guru but the tom holder looks correct.

I am working on a 67 set right now.

The bearing edges on the toms look like yours.

The bearing edge on the kick is the opposite.

Let's see the tom legs. :)

Nice looking kit. The wrap looks original and in good condition.

But the bearing edge looks too sharp. It might have been re-cut, because it tapers from the outside and stops at the beginning of the 4th ply. I thought the bearing edges were supposed to be "round over" during the RB period. I'll let others chime in.

Rail consolette for the tom looks correct. The silver grommet holding the RB on the bass drum looks correct, but something bumped into it and flattened the edge.

Correct bearing edges for Gretsch; inside out round-over. It's where that Great Gretsch Sound comes from.

Legs and leg mounts on the floor tom are period correct.

Tom mount is period correct.

Bass drum spurs and mount are period correct.

Buggers all look pretty legit to me. I restored a late 50's RB kit, pretty much the same hardware on the drums. Mine are 3-ply shells yours are later 6-ply, but your drums look good to me in terms of being original.

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks for the responses gents! The floor tom legs we found in the "extra"bin in back of the store. I don't know that they are Gretsch or what.

So all in all this would be considered original and untouched. Other than someone trying to fix the Inlay on the hoops. Not to great of a job.

This kit will be for sale probably as is. When I find out what the owner is looking for I will post it up.

Any other info about the kit would be welcome!!

The ft legs don't look like any of the 60's Gretsch ft legs I have been looking at.

The catalogs here show legs like the ones I have on mine.

They are a straight leg with a little flair out at the ends.

The edges on mine are round over to the outside on the toms and what looks to be about a 30 degree edge to the inside on the kick.

I do not know if my edges were ever re-cut but knowing the guy I got them from I would guess no.

My ft came from Gerald Sterkin and I'm guessing he never re-cut the edge on it.

Yes they look alike! Good to know. That is some fine snare drum work you did on your site! Great looking drums!

Grommet on Bass drum is correct. It was a friction fit like that which is why so many Gretsch bass drums are missing their badges. Floor tom leg brackets look right.

Gretsch called that color "Midnight Blue Pearl"
