Hi Guys:
A friend of mine gave me this snare drum shell. Initially I thought i might try to find original single tension "lugs" and restore it to original condition but from what I'm seeing, these things don't have a high collector value.
i'm considering the idea of drilling it for 8 or 10 lugs per side and adding metal hoops (though I'll probably look for a throw and butt to fit the existing holes). Is this sacrilege?

That particular cloud badge was used primarily on marching and 'juvenile' drums. Is that a 3-ply shell?
You can find brass single tension rods online that will fit this common sized drum. No drilling or butchering a nice drum.

Tough call, I don't see the classic Slingerland thin, thick, thin 3-ply layup. This may be a 2-ply shell. Per Slingerland historian Dr CJ Wenk the lighter 2-ply shell was commonly used on 'juvenile' drums and lower line marchers. Nice shell for sure.
