I've got to "ditto" the idea of the AAV series. I've tried them out on some of my vintage drums and couldn't be any more pleased. Not bad price-wise, either.
Also agree on the newer Ludwig Weathermasters. They've worked well on my vintage drums, too. And, price-wise they're a little cheaper than the AAV. And whether supposed-to-or-not, I've matched them up with the AAV and everyone I've compared is exactly the same size, so the Ludwig Weathermasters are obviously slightly oversized as well, whether they push that idea or not!
IMO you couldn't go wrong with either...
