Looking at the wear on the heads looks like he could have saved some money and bought a four piece set instead.

Looking at the wear on the heads looks like he could have saved some money and bought a four piece set instead.

I think thats because the 13" is upside down, and on the wrong side?

Thank you!

They look mahogany cortex to me also. The shells have re rings ,so 3 ply maple/poplar/maple.Mid 70's.The bass drum has 5/16" arc spurs,so pre 76.The later 6 ply shells had 1/2" arc spurs.

Agreed on the pro beat model.13/14/16/18/24.They look to be in pretty good condition.

Looks like sizes are 12,13,14,16,22 ?Looking at the close up pic of the badge and the flash of the camera., I would guess it is cortex ( plastic)wrap but very hard to tell. The mahogany looks fake. Look at the bottom of the bass drum to see if there are two seem's. If it is indeed cortex then it dates between 73 and 82. The seven digit serial number was introduced on the pointy badge in mid 71 and early 72.What are the cymbals? they play a very important part of the cost. Im not sure how anyone can put a value on these without knowing more about the cymbals. You have a couple of b/o sticker stands. Both are Hercules, one straight and one is a boom. The hihat is a black and white "Rocker" stand and is much less desirable than the b/o stands. Looks to be a speed king pedal which is good also, and that throne is sporting the same feet as the hercules stands, so it could be a Ludwig throne, I would look for Ludwigs name on it.I would think the value will be much different between the cortex wrap and real mahogany veneer. The seem test should answer that question. Post some close up shots of the cymbals and the stamps on them, if they have one. Im no expert just getting info from my Rob Cook book here!Very nice kit! It is worth some good money either way! Good luck, and Happy Thanksgiving .

Thanks jccabinets-great info here! The cymbals are all zildjian and i`ll try to get pix and post them here. Thanks very much again for your time and much valued info.

Hi there!

IMHO it´s a MAHOGANY CORTEX PRO BEAT early 1977 (there were some remanent 5/16 spurs).... Atlas or Hercules hardware... I´m not sure

Great sounding kit and very fun to play!!!

You could see these kind of kits on fleabay at the ballpark of $1000-1200...

No snare?? a LM400 could fit beautiful right there in the middle

Let us know which could be the destiny of the kit!

Guys-thanks so very much for your valued info and expert advice-it is a ludwig throne and sizes are 13,14,16,18,24 with b/o stands.I personally checked them out and it`s mahogany cortex wrap but all original and no mods at all.Looks like a good collectors kit with all the vintage parts there.Pointy badge 1976/77 looks like a good time zone for them. Thanks a ton again for all your help-much appreciated!
