Need help with this MONSTER Zildjian Ride

Hello All. First time poster here, looking to gain some knowledge on a Cymbal I have had kicking around for some time. It was Given to me by a friend of mine in exchange for some work I had done for him. A few years ago I was forced to retire my acoustic kit and go electronic. I was going to sell my acoustic kit ( really just a thrown together bunch random 5$ drums from yard sales). So I researched a little into the one piece I had a hunch had value. Needless to say, I ended up packing it all up and storing it for when i got back into the acoustic Kit. Here we are.

So far this is what i came up with.

This is a 26" AVEDIS Zildjian Ride cymbal. It Does have the 3 dots, and the Zildjian name is clear not faded in the middle, solid not block letters. No ink on the cymbal anywhere. It is Medium-dark color. It weighs in at approximately 4650 grams. I am not sure of the age but i am taking a shot in the dark at around 60's to 70's. It also has a gromet in hole and as such has not sustained any keyholing.

Can anyone confirm the age / value of this beast for me? Is this thing worth anything? I was thinking of putting it in a shadow box and mounting it in the den above my new kit, or possibly selling it if the price is right.

beautiful cymbal. i'd say early 60's on that. has some hammering and such that may be indicative of 50's hammering. very nice. that's a beast!!

A new one will run at least 500.00, retail.-----I know because I had one custom made out of Turkey. I paid for it factory direct and the shipping was consolidated with 20 other cymbals.

so; this one being what it is; an early 60's A. with a considerable amount of hand hammering has to be worth quite a bit more than that, IMHO.

So ,would the range of say 1000 - 1200 USD be in the correct ball park? I Am purchasing a new kit and what to use this to offset the cost of hardware / cymbals etc. Might even consider a trade if it will get me setup.

I think yr being alil mislead here..

Its a 60s cymbal...nice lathing / good shape.

If it has a grommet inside the center hole / then I'm thinking its part of a set for Big band / music..

The grommet is there to hold the leather handles in place..

As for price...If it was a 60s K...then ya big $$..

However I have the same cymbal in a 24" that I would consider selling for $200 any day of the week..

Yours being a 26"...is hard to find / but not in the $1000 range..

I would humbly think that $200/$300 retail is about right..

I'm hoping to help / not upset you..

I'm sure that a few of the others will offer there experienced help and maybe take an average of the total..

Or, put it for sale / Best offer in the for sale section..

Thanks for your input RIMS. I have been in marching / BIG bands and those would be a monsters to cary. At just over 10 pounds, X2, they would be a little to big to wield. The only way they would have had leather used in them would have been to be used by hand. That would also put a pad on the top of the bell that could have caused some wear / friction. Not saying that it's not plausible, just more on the not likely side.

Another possibility would be that someone added the grommet to protect the hole when it was mounted, if only because of the weight of it. After all, being from the 60's i guess you never know where it's been along the way.

I have to agree that $1K or more is too much. First of all, it's a niche market. I bought an Istanbul Agop Signature 26" for $379. I'm aware that it's not a '60s A, but still a very high quality cymbal. Also agree that the grommets are usually found in paired cymbals, be it band or orchestral. An orchestral 26" wouldn't raise any eyebrows. My guess is $400 to $500.

Having also been an orchestral/Marching percussionist, there is NO way you're gonna play a pair of 26's!

Value wise I'd check ebay history to see what they go for.

Or keep it and play it :)

Yes, I agree that a 26" would be too unwieldy to play in a orchestral situation. I don't know what I was thinking. You're probably right — the grommet was added to prevent keyholing. Or possibly it came from the factory that way. Checking ebay history is a good idea. Personally, I would keep it and play it. My 26" Istanbul sounds and plays fantastic.

Good advice.
