Need help identifying Camco Oak Lawn snare

Loading...

Hi guys,

I picked this one up today in the shadow of the old Oak Lawn Camco factory and was wondering if any of the house Camco experts may be able to help me ID it. From looking at 60's Camco catalogs online, it looks to be a 701-M Tuxedo Metal Drum, and it sounds GREAT! I took a magnet to the shell and the hoops - it stuck to the hoops, but not the shell, so I assume chrome over brass shell and die case hoops? To my untrained eye, nothing has been changed out on this one, but I'm FAR from an expert on these snares. I'm also having a tough time finding any sort of value on the Tuxedo Metal, or any way to accurately date them, so if you've got any ideas, I'm all ears! And now, I'll turn this one over to the photos!

Yes, it is a 701M. Based upon the rims and strainer, I'd place it as a late 60's drum. These snares sound good, but this type of Camco strainer has a tendency to pop into the released position after a couple of good rimshots.

Does it have the keyholder opposite the badge/vent?

The muffler is not original.

Thanks for the info! It does have the keyholder opposite the badge, though the original key is gone. I've updated my original post with better photos.
