Need help identifying a (very) vintage snare Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Loading...

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, so I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section. However I need some info on this particular snare.

My girlfriend's grandmother wanted me to take a look at this. She's had it in her attic for a very long time now, it was her father's snare drum. Her grandmother is 80 now, and she believes it to be over 100 years old. I'm no vintage drum guru by any means. The only sign of I.D. or badging on the entire drum (without taking the extremely aged heads off to inspect the inside) is what looks to be a Leedy engraving on the batter hoop. It has a very old set of snares and tension rods with the slotted heads. I've posted this on a couple other forums for info as well, and got a couple replies saying it might be an early to mid 1920's Leedy brass shell.

She would just like me to find out more about it and what it is potentially worth. Any info would be greatly appreciated, or if there is another internet resource I can turn to for more info, let me know.

Thanks!

It dates around 1923/1924 this is when these lugs were in production. here this is a good source of info from Mark Cooper, http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/leedylugs.htm also http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/leedystrainers.htm

i 2nd that mark

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Wow..That is one nice snare drum, and in pretty much original mint condition.. I think i've found your snare drum at this website-- http://www.vintagedrums.com/...

Just scroll down to where it says underneath the pic of what looks to be that exact snare drum, except for the hoops, which are diecast--

late 1920's Leedy, Professional, brass shell, nickel plated, 8 lug, 5x14", excellent+, original.

$2000.00--8 repro tension rods. That should be about what it's worth, as your seems to be in that exact condition..

The drum in question is the multi model, not the professional model. it is worth around 300.00 to 500.00 the multi model has the thinner brass shell than the professional model has.
